These days Google Adwords is all about the Quality Score. If your advertising campaigns don’t pass Google’s Quality Check – You’re gonna pay!
“Google Stupid Tax” is a special per click price increase Google charges for being incompetent about Adwords. On the other hand, Google appreciates competency as much as it hates incompetency, that’s why Google rewards effective advertising with a per click cost decrease up to 2/3 of the original price.
Here’re some tips to make sure you don’t get hit with the “Google Stupid Tax:”
- Google Loves RELEVANT Keywords. Avoid using long tail keywords. They will mess up your ROI, crucify your budget and eliminate any chance for profits by drastically increasing traffic costs.
- Google Loves RELEVANT Ads. Avoid tricking the searchers. Google is all about the User’s Search Experience. If you are going to mislead the searcher by placing irrelevant ads – Google is going to hunt you down before you can say “I’ve made a sale!”
- Avoid Using The Word “FREE”. Google hates to see the word “FREE” in their ads. Avoid using it (especially if you are sending traffic to a capture page). Instead of using “FREE” try using “Special” or “Exclusive.” You don’t even have to mention the price. Just mention the benefits the user will get from visiting your capture page.
- Google Loves RELEVANT Capture Pages. If you are advertising weight loss relevant capture page, make sure to include weight loss relevant keywords in your page’s title, description and body. If you are going to implement this one tip, Google is going to give you 50-70% OFF your advertising rates and you will massacre your competition.
The whole idea behind avoiding “Google Stupid Tax” is to be RELEVANT throughout your advertising campaigns. Be RELEVANT and CONSISTENT from your keywords to your ads and onto your capture pages and Google will reward you. Fail to comply and Google will penalize you with a higher cost per click.

Why is it that the words “Stupid” and “Tax” make you read something? We want to avoid both things without a doubt. The info provided was great. Short, Sweet and Relevant.

You’re right Jan, no one wants to look/feel stupid.
Besides, that’s exactly what it should be called
in the Official Google’s terms of service, because
anyone who’s paying more then they should have is in fact…stupid
