I think it is definitely very abrupt and perhaps sneaky, but who’s to say it is bad, until we know what the click through rate on that Tweet is. I’m guessing some folks actually have clicked through. Did they enroll? Again that remains to be seen.

Can you provide some example of how you would have positioned it better.

Well, first I wouldn’t accuse someone to a bot especially when the message that is being sent was obviously sent by a bot(scheduled or auto dm).
Second, I would probably offer some strong benefit of the free offer. He doesn’t mention anything about that URL/Offer that is of value to me…
I would definitely at least try to describe what’s the offer about and say something like: “If you’re interested in xyz, please click on this link to get a free xyz”

You know it’s one thing to shamelessly promote your website on Twitter because we all do it but to demand that you get on my mailing list, which is what he is doing with that free order is something else all together. My stuff is free maybe he has the right idea????? Nah.
