7 Reasons Why You Need a Little Black Book

in Productivity and Efficiency

little black bookTo me, time is always of the essence. Productivity, efficiency and energy management are what my life is all about. I always try to maximize the output of every second and every action I take. I never work with my TV or Radio on, nor do I speak on the phone during my “work hours.”

When I say that you need a “little black book,” what I mean is that you need some kind of organization in your schedule.

Until recent months I have been working without one. I tried to keep my work days as organized as possible. However, being the human that I am, I tend to forget stuff once in a while (maybe twice :) .

It wasn’t long before I started to miss out on meetings and scheduled calls with clients. It came down to a situation where I had to vigorously apologize for being late. This experience was humiliating, to say the least, especially after I published this post. I knew I had to change the way I do business.

I recalled a principle I learned from the great Dan Kennedy in his book “No BS Time Management For Entrepreneurs.” I gone out and I got myself a little black book I could write things down in. Since then, my life became much easier.

Now I don’t have to remember what I am supposed to do-I can just glance at my schedule to find out. Also, I can freely schedule meetings and appointments knowing that I won’t miss any of them and most important I know which days are free so I can book the upcoming ventures too.

The latter is actually far more crucial then it seems because I recall quite a few times when I scheduled things over other things and made a big mess out of my day and even a bigger ass out of myself.

Here are 9 simple reasons I believe you should get a little black book too:

1. Meetings & Calls

quick notesScheduling meetings with other internet marketers and business partners, calling clients and forming profitable business relationships becomes much easier and more convenient when you can jot things down in your black book.

2. Webinars

Internet Marketing is a global phenomenon and often we are forced to connect with people from other countries which means that we need to keep in mind the time zone differences when scheduling webinars and coaching calls. It is easy to get lost in conversions, therefore, converting once and writing it down in your black book makes you life a little easier.

3. Quick Notes

Your black book isn’t limited to meetings and webinars, you can always write down additional notes and tasks you need to take care of during the day.

4. Doesn’t Require Electricity or Internet Connection

Some will say that an Organizer Software beats my little black book, but I beg to differ, because to this day, I haven’t found anything that beats pen and paper. I even dedicated a full post to this topic here and to this day I stick to my opinion.

5. Convenience

No matter how you look at it, the black book is far more convenient then a laptop to carry around. Also, it doesn’t mix up with your phone and mp3 player, so it is easily accessible. Moreover, it doesn’t require any special skills besides reading and writing to navigate through, unlike Blackberries and iPhones that are packed with complicated technology and gadgets.

6. Makes You Look Like a Bookie

I don’t know about you, but to me, a little black book reminds me of bookkeepers and mob. To me, the black book represents a part of being cool and being serious about my work, therefore I consider it to be an essential part of my business and my coolness.

7. More Control

control freakBefore I adopted this concept, my business life was a mess. The black book helped me gain more control over what’s happening around me and allowed me to leverage my time more efficiently then I could ever do on my own.

The little black book improved my life to a great extent, what about you? Do you have one of those little black books or do you cope with technology as an alternative? Maybe you don’t own anything yet? Leave a comment! I am dying to find out.

Hi Igor

Great post – I would be LOST without my diary! :???:

I keep it in my handbag (which goes everywhere with me) and refer to it every day.

I keep track of not only business related information, but all my appointments and other commitments with the kids, eg: dancing lessons, swimming lessons, play dates, kinder meetings, school meetings, due dates to pay bills, when I’ve got the car booked in for a service, when we’re going on holidays! … the list goes on!

I couldn’t manage my life without it!

It saves a lot of mental energy (and potential stress) simply by having things written down in an orderly fashion.

WOW, Kylie. I am not there yet, but I sure do see how
my life becomes more organized each day since I’ve started
to use the black book.
