Are You A Fat Marketer?

Fat MarketingThis week I had a pleasure of visiting my brother who lives in Hod Ha Sharon, a small town about 150 km away from my home in Arad.

Unlike previously, this time I thought I’d catch a train instead of riding a car. This meant I had to get on a bus to Beer Sheva and buy a train ticket to Tel Aviv.

In Tel Aviv I had to get off the train and wait for another one that would take me to Hod Ha Sharon where my brother lives.

To tell you the truth I really hate public transport, since I spent over 6 years riding buses and trains to college, but for whatever reason, I felt I needed to experience this journey anyway.

And here’s the insight I picked up I think you’ll benefit from:

Internet Marketing Is A Lot Like Jumping Trains.

Train StationI witnessed thousands of people in Tel Aviv getting off and on trains to all the different directions.

Whether it’s to or from work, they ride the same trains every single day.

They do the same thing over and over again day by day.

The ones that study in the Ben Gurion University in Tel Aviv, get on the train because they can’t afford a car and because it allows them to go over the material one more time before the exam.

Others use trains to travel to and from work. The saddest part of this is they talk about work on the platform while they wait for the train, when they get on the train and when they get off it.

I see many marketers do pretty much the same thing only without actually jumping trains and buses.

These people talk about how they can’t manage to get results and keep doing the same thing over and over again.

Definition Of Insanity

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” Albert Einstein.

Train RidingInternet marketing is all about Change. It’s as much about Change as it’s about Driving Traffic.

You can’t be riding the same train day in and day out and expect your results to improve. It’s insane!

If you’re guilty of this, it’s time you admit it and get off at the next station.

Internet marketing does not require you to reinvent the wheel, but you need to try different things to know what works and what doesn’t.

And when you have a list of all those great things that work-invest 99% of your time in making these things working even better.

For over a month now I have been testing different ads, widget placements, pop ups, slide ups, slide downs and other lead generation and revenue getting strategies on my blog.

Majority of the tweaks that I tried failed miserably, however, I did manage to find couple of gems that will improve my marketing in the long term.

I recommend you do the same for your website and marketing plan.

Don’t be scared to try out new stuff-even if it fails, it’s still an asset!

John Reese said it right:

“Anything you do or spend money on or put time into, even if it doesn’t give you the results that you want, has incredible value.”

In Order To Change Your Bad Marketing, First You Must Face It

Train JumpingThe first step to improving your marketing is to face the fact that it sucks. If you can’t admit it, you won’t do anything about it.

If you’re not getting the results that you want-it’s time to face the fact that you need to change the way you market.

It reminds me of the time when I was unhappy with my physical shape. I was over 10 kg over weight and I hated the way I look and the way people women treated me.

It was only after I admitted that I was fat-I did something about it. I understood that the reason I was unhappy was me being overweight and I just couldn’t continue living like that any longer.

I changed the way I ate, I exercised regularely and the next thing you know-I was in the best shape of my life. I could even do 1 pull up which was a groundbreaking achievement.

Since then, my life changed. I became happy about the way I look, move and the way cloth feet me. I became comfortable with myself and as a result people (and women) treated me differently. My life improved dramatically.

Are You A “Fat Marketer”?

If you suffer from the “Fat Marketing Syndrome” then you need to admit it and do something about it.

I know that I am beating around the bush on this one, but that’s only because I want this to get in your had:

Internet Marketing Is About Change, Tracking, Testing and Tweaking. Trial and Error is what’s needed to make your marketing work for you and not the other way around.

While reading this post, all my mind was thinking about were the words from a great MJ song:

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways,
No message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make the change
You gotta get it right, while you got the time
‘Cause when you close your heart
Then you close your mind

And, I welcome change, too. It is the self-introspection that is a difficult pill to swallow. It is the hard look at your marketing business that allows you to really see places where improvements could be made.

Where’s that mirror?

I believe many times we fail to see
what’s wrong with out business by ourselves.

That’s why I think it is important we have
a person we can turn to, that can redirect us
back on the right track.
